Wax Carving for Sculptural Rings
The design possibilities of wax are endless! Not bound by the rigidity of metal, your ideas for what a ring can be are able to be unleashed through the medium of wax working!
This live, virtual workshop will act as in introduction to the carving of sculptural wax ring models that can later be cast into metal. Students will learn the wax carving process in full, starting with the critical first steps of design and layout, moving into carving techniques and methodologies, and then finally delving into wax model preparation for the casting process. This course will also introduce students to the varying types of tools needed for the wax carving process, their functions, as well as proper tool-use etiquette. Local casting companies will be covered at the end of the workshop. Student will walk away with a solid foundation and understanding of wax carving and the many paths they can take to creating their own unique sculptural rings!

Meet the instructor
Donna Veverka is a Boston based studio jeweler. She creates limited edition and one of a kind jewelry that is inspired by classical and renaissance architecture. Her work has been featured in Metalsmith magazine, the award winning Cast book and most recently, Mastering Contemporary Jewelry Design. She has participated in Art and Craft fairs around the country including The Smithsonian Craft Show,CraftBoston and the American Craft Council shows. Donna hold a BFA in metalsmithing from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and an MFA in sculpture from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

The following supplies will be used for course demonstrations and objectives. A suggested item and/or vendor has been provided below for reference. If ordering, please be aware that some items may come in larger quantities than needed for this class. We recommend not opening an item's packaging until the day of the workshop. Student participation during or in-between class sessions is strongly encouraged but not required - observers are welcome.
