Repetitive Patterns in Enamel

This workshop will introduce students to various techniques for creating patterns on enamel surfaces. Techniques include creating handmade stencils, layering store bought stencils, mark making using the sgraffito technique and repeating patterns with enamel ink and a quill pen. Students will experiment and learn about the properties of Thompson’s medium expansion enamels, a variety of overglaze brands, as well as firing temperatures and nuances. Students will make test tiles and have the opportunity to make a finished pendant with a mosaic pattern of their choice.

Onsite reopening will follow all necessary safety policies and state mandates. Please click here to read current and up-to-date information regarding Metalwerx health and safety protocols.

Tanya Crane is a Southern California native who holds a degree in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and a degree in Art/Metals from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She seeks adventure and experience, which has led to a lifetime of moving from one metropolitan city to another. These experiences have informed her work offering a diverse range of materials, which she has integrated into her jewelry and sculptures that speak more to her research about identity and race, than to the material itself. Crane’s work has been on view most recently at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts and the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
