Bias Dragonscale Weave

This live, virtual workshop will teach student how to complete the Bias Dragonscale weave through the creation of a bracelet and/or necklace. Weaving Dragonscale on the bias gives the weave a very fluid drape that enhances the fit and visual appeal of your pieces. Due to the complexity and density of the weave, it is recommended that students learn using anodized aluminum. The techniques learned in class can also be applied to precious metals. Students will receive a comprehensive color PDF file with instructions to make both the bracelet and necklace.

It is assumed that all students who enroll are proficient weavers (can properly open/close jump rings and use pliers), know the difference between Through-the-Eye and Around-the-Eye connections, and understand gauge, inner/outer diameter, and aspect ratio. Students should be comfortable working with complex weave patterns, adjusting patterns for length and making clasp attachments. Ability to construct European 4-in-1 and Helm Chain is required.

This course will consist of two sessions. There will be a no-class day between each session.

Class will be held live via Zoom during the designated time frame. A link to the Zoom room will be sent via email.

Each session will be recorded and you will receive a password protected link to the recordings that expire after 30 days.

Materials & Tools

Students will need to have the following materials in preparation for this online workshop. The Dragonscale weave requires two sizes of jump rings - for class we will be using 18swg, 3/16” ID and 18swg 9/32” ID anodized aluminum jump rings. You can choose the colors(s) you prefer. The pieces pictured in the class advertisement are Black Ice and Champagne.

It is suggested that you use jump rings from Metal Designz or The Ring Lord, as the instructor has used rings from both of these suppliers and cannot guarantee that similar sizes from other suppliers will work.

200 of both 18g jump rings are needed for a bracelet and 400 jump rings for a necklace. The single 16g jump ring is optional. Be sure to get saw cut jump rings. Metal Designz pricing is in Canadian dollars - expect to see 20-25% less on your credit card statement.
