April Showers Bring Tin Flowers!

In this virtual course, students will learn the fundamentals of working with reclaimed tin (printed steel) to easily add color, pattern, and depth to their jewelry designs. Through crafting flower motifs, students will learn the ins and outs of cutting, forming, and cold connection techniques for tin in combination with copper or sterling silver. Class participants can expect to gain the knowledge and ability to make a pair of earrings, a pendant, and one brooch using printed and patterned tin as their primary material.

Marian Miller is a studio artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Marian was born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and draws much her inspiration from spending summers at the beach, family heirlooms and the stories about them. During her studies to become an art therapist Marian discovered metalwork and studied both jewelry and New Mexico tin-working at Santa Fe Community College. She furthered her studies as an apprentice to a jeweler and by attending classes at Penland School of Craft, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and the New Approach School for Jewelers. Marian spent a year as a resident artist at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft.
