Introduction to Jewelry Making
Instructor: Ms. Wendy Jo New
Level: Beginner Requirements: None Program: Winter Status: Wait List Length: 2 Days Tuition: $ 350 Materials: TBA Date: February 04, 2012 - February 05, 2012 Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location: Metalwerx
Have you ever (or have you never) tried metalsmithing but always wanted to or didn't have the time? If so, this condensed two day survey course of beginning jewelry techniques may be your ideal solution.
Students will learn to saw, anneal, solder, file, texture, solder inlay, dap, dome, drill, and finish nonferrous metals (silver, copper, brass). This course will also cover how to bezel-set a cabochon stone (or maybe 2! - as time permits).
This is a great class for the beginner on the go, or for those who just need a quick refresher. No experience is necessary.
If you'd like to see more of Wendy's work, please visit her website www.wjnmetaldesigns.com
Note: This workshop starts early. Please be on time and ready to work.
Materials & Tools
Your estimated $55 - 60 materials kit (payable at the workshop) includes copper, sterling silver, solder, bezel wire, cabochon stone and saw blades. Please note: this price may be higher or lower upon class day due to the fluctuating metals market. It was priced out in Sept. 2011 but will be based on the cost of metals at the time they are ordered.
Students should bring:
- Small hand towel
- Tool box (shoe box, plastic tackle box etc.)
- Old tooth brush (for cleaning)
- Ruler
- Ultra Fine point Sharpie permanent marker
- Sketchbook, pen and pencil
- Reading glasses if you need them to see at a close distance
- Rubber band/hair elastic if you have long hair so you can tie it back for safety
