Mokume Gane: Hot Pressing
Instructor: Mr. Chris Ploof
Level: Advanced Requirements: Previous experience making Mokume Gane Program: Summer Status: Open Length: 2 Days Tuition: $ 450 Materials: TBA Date: November 06, 2010 - November 07, 2010 Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location: Chris Ploof Studio - Pawtucket RI
In this two day version of the class, students will make a billet on day one, and hot press it on day two. Rapid reduction is the name of the game with hot pressing. It allows for uniform reduction, and takes advantage of the plastic deformation properties at heat.
Please Note: We will be moving at a fast pace, and covering a lot of ground. Technical vocabulary is a must, and be prepared for lots of note taking. Proficiency with jewelry tools and prior experience creating Mokume Gane is a must, as well as the ability to think outside of the box. This class is specially designed for students who have already taken a Mokume class with Chris and want to focus on the hot pressing method for creating & reducing billets.

About Chris Ploof's Studio:
This renovated mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island presents a
unique opportunity for students to move from working on
small projects using traditional hand tools to working on a
larger scale, using manufacturing tools and techniques. These
classes will promote safety, allow students to see another well-equipped facility, and provide hands-on experience with tools
outside of the normal jewelry realm.
Each class is limited to six students.
Materials & Tools Materials are expected to cost about $150 (based on market value at the time the metal is ordered). This fee is payable at the workshop.
