This workshop will focus on design concepts and techniques for neck pieces including an array of methods for chain links, closures, incorporating beads, and more. Between fusing, soldering, and alternative connections, you will discover a veritable treasure trove of tips and tricks to make your studio process more enjoyable.

Over three days, become exposed to the rich tradition of classical techniques as well as the practical shortcuts for making work efficiently. Morning demos will take up the first part of class each day and then students will have time to work independently. It's helpful to have a sketchbook to keep track of notes and ideas. Students can choose to pursue a variety of samples or focus on a particular piece (or pieces, depending on their complexity)

This workshop is appropriate for beginners as well as advanced students. There will be something for people at every level. Soldering knowledge is necessary.

Materials & Tools

Argentium, pearls and a variety of gems and pearls will be available for purchase from the instructor. Students can expect to spend about $40 for materials.

Students Should Bring

Metalwerx has hand tools available for student use, but you might have to share. We do not recommend packing your entire studio into a tool box, but your favorite things that you cannot live without will come in handy including:

  • pliers
  • hand shears
  • files
  • Sanding sticks

Metal/supplies

Students can bring the metal they want to work with such as a selection of 18, 20, and 22 gauge wire and sheet. However, Paulette will have metal and supplies available for purchase as indicated above.
