Gemstones like pear shapes, marquis, trillions, and squares/princess cuts all pose special challenges because of their points and corners! Learn the specific approach needed to set these stones beautifully and effectively.

Students will start by fabricating bezels for pointed cabochons, then move on to the setting challenges posed by faceted stones. After learning to cut seats and set into commercially available settings, we will move on to building and setting our own heads and bezels as time allows. Students will leave the class with a series of samples, as well as knowledge and skills to apply to their own designs moving forward.

Students should feel comfortable at the torch and must have previous stone setting experience.

Materials & Tools

A materials kit of $75 is payable when signing up. It includes all the stones for projects as well as materials for making settings (burs, metal, etc.).

Students Should Bring

  • Any favorite hand tools including files, sanding sticks, and pliers
  • Optivisor, if needed. Metalwerx has some available to use
