Wire Sculpture by Adrienne Sloane
|
Sculptural Knitting with Wire
Instructor: Ms. Adrienne Sloane
Level: All Skill Levels Requirements: None Program: Spring Status: Closed Length: 3 Sessions Tuition: $ 150 Materials: $ 0 Date: May 18, 2010 - June 01, 2010 Time: Every Tuesday at 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Location: Metalwerx
This class will use knitting fundamentals to create various shapes while taking advantage of knit's natural tendencies. Working with a broad range of beautiful colors of copper wire, students will problem solve and manipulate stitches to integrate their ideas and create their own designs. New techniques to create knit structure will be introduced and students will leave with vibrant knit sculptures that evoke the colors of spring.
Knitting knowledge helpful although previous wire work not necessary.
This class is 3 sessions long. Each session meets for 3 hours. If a make-up class is necessary, it will be held on June 8, 2010.
You can see more of Adrienne's work on her website www.adriennesloane.com
Materials & Tools There is no materials fee for this class. Wire will be available for purchase from the instructor as necessary.
Student Supply list:
- Bring size 2-8 metal knitting needles** (double pointed best)
- crochet hooks of similar sizes
- jewelry pliers (if you have them, Metalwerx has some available to share)
- 24-28 gauge wire as well as beads or other findings you would like to use if you have them. Materials will also be available for purchase from instructor as needed.
- This can be fine work so please bring magnifiers if you use them.
**Please note: It is not necessary to buy all the sizes of needles and crochet hooks. It is more a matter of what gauge stitch participants decide they are comfortable working with this craft wire. For those who haven't knit previously with wire, we suggest starting with the larger needles to get a feel for it, but usually people move smaller for creating some stability in the work.
Working with the hooks creates a more uniform stitch and the needles a more freeform look. So again, it will ultimately be knitters choice on tools.
