Add color to your work! Learn to finish handmade pieces of jewelry with beautiful patinas. In this class students will create basic jewelry designs in silver, copper, brass and nickel and then transform each piece with a patina. After creating several samples, students will work on a colorful piece of jewelry of their own design. By the end of the course, understand how different chemicals react to certain metals and what colors you can achieve on the surface including blues, greens, browns, and black.
Students will experiment through ready-made, store-bought patinas as well as homemade patinas with chemicals available at the supermarket or hardware store. This class will also cover safety and basic finishing techniques so that patinas will not rub off.
This class is 5 sessions long. Each session is 3 hours.
Materials & Tools The $50 materials fee, payable when signing up, includes plenty of metal for samples/projects as well as the chemicals needed to create gorgeous patinas!
