|
Jewelry 1 1/2: Advanced Beginners
Instructor: Ms. Joy Raskin
Level: Beginner to Intermediate Requirements: Basic Metalsmithing Skills Program: Winter Status: Closed Length: 8 Sessions Tuition: $ 375 Materials: $ 50 Date: January 28, 2010 - March 25, 2010 Time: Every Thursday at 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM Location: Metalwerx
Jewelry 1 1/2 is geared towards students who would like to refine foundation skills learned in Jewelry I. In addition, students will get many tips and tricks that will help solve problems encountered with finishing, soldering, and stone setting.
A cable link chain project will expand soldering and hammering skills. Joy will also demonstrate variations on the basic bezel setting to create more unique pieces, which will be followed by a project of student's own design. Students will also be introduced to resin inlay, a perfect way to add color to your work.
Hate cleaning up bezels? This class will also cover how to properly use deburring wheels (a flexshaft attachment) that take the stress out of clean-up work. She'll also cover other efficient ways of sanding and finishing so students can achieve a consistent finish on their metal surfaces.
This class is 8 session long. Each session is 3 hours. There will be no class on February 19. If a make-up class is necessary, it will be held on April 1, 2010.
Materials & Tools
The $50 materials fee, payable when signing up, includes metal and supplies to complete projects.
Students should bring:
- A sketchbook for taking notes
- Personal hand tools, such as files or pliers.
