Expand your jewelry horizons and get wired! An introduction to knitting and crocheting with wire, this class will cover resources, materials and design ideas for successful wire jewelry, getting students started on a various techniques using beautifully colored art wire.

Beginning with bracelets, the class will cover knit structure using needles, crochet hooks, as well as introduce slip stitch and knitting in the round, plying in beads and found objects and adding findings to the work. As participants create delicate and unusual artistic jewelry, they will have the opportunity to execute multiple pieces of their own design over the course of the class. Previous wire or jewelry making not required but basic knit or crochet skills helpful.

This class is 5 sessions long. Each session meets for 3 hours. If a make-up class is necessary, it will be held on December 3, 2009.

Materials & Tools
There is no materials fee for this class. Wire will be available for purchase from the instructor as necessary.

Student Supply list:

  • Bring size 2-8 metal knitting needles (double pointed best)
  • crochet hooks of similar sizes
  • jewelry pliers (if you have them, Metalwerx has some available to share)
  • 24-28 gauge wire as well as beads or other findings you would like to use if you have them. Materials will also be available for purchase from instructor as needed.
  • This can be fine work so please bring magnifiers if you use them.
