In this fun and fast paced workshop we will cover multiple stone setting techniques in just five days.

    Modified bezels for irregular cabochons and found objects

    Cabochons with corners

    Flush setting for Round Stones

    Setting techniques for fancy shaped faceted stones, including stones with points.

Each technique listed above will include discussion and demo of both fabrication and setting issues specific to each. We will wrap up the workshop with problem solving for the setting challenges that have been lurking, unresolved in your bench!

SANDALS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE WORN IN OUR STUDIO FOR SAFETY REASONS. Make sure to wear close toed shoes to class!!!

Materials & Tools

The $200 materials fee, payable when signing up, includes stones, stone setting burs and tools, pre-made settings, and metal for students to fabricate their own settings.

Students should bring:

  • #7 Optivisor
  • Sketchbook
  • Assorted small trays (yogurt lids work very well)
  • Good quality chain nose pliers (See page 14 in your Rio Grande catalogue.  They have a good selection ranging from $8 - $30)
  • 3 square escapement of needle file #6 cut
