This workshop will focus on adorning the hand. Design and make a variety of rings and bracelets. Students will explore many designs, from the simple band ring and bangle bracelet to hollow and fold formed variations.

Techniques such as embossing, hammer patterning, fusing, forging and fabrication will be demonstrated. This workshop exposes the student to the rich tradition of classical techniques as well as the practical shortcuts for making work efficiently.

Here is a basic daily schedule below. If you have particular demonstrations of interest, or need specific information on a topic please ask in class and we can add it to this list.

    Day one/two: Rings, rings, rings! Learn about different styles and methods of thinking about design, ring shank styles, measuring, and fabrication. See demonstrations from the basic band to fold forming, incorporating stones, pearls, found objects, etc.

    Day three/four: Bracelets: Discuss the wrist and arm as creative space. Demo's include forming, fold forming, forging, connections, clasps and closures.

    Last Day: Students will continue to pursue projects of their own design with guidance and problem solve issues they've encountered in their own work. There will also be time available to cover student requests.

SANDALS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE WORN IN OUR STUDIO FOR SAFETY REASONS. Make sure to wear close toed shoes to class!!!

Materials & Tools

*Paulette will provide for sale Argentium wire by the foot in the following gauges in 20,18,16,14 & 12. Sheet argentium in 20 and 18 gauge will also be for sale by the square inch as well as a variety of stones, pearls, and gold. **Solder and flux are provided in the lab fee.

Students Should Bring:

  • Favorite hand tools
  • Metal and stones will be available for purchase, but students are welcome to bring their own
