Level: All Skill Levels Requirements: Basic Metalsmithing Skills Program: Winter Status: Open Tuition: $ 450 Materials: $ 50 Date: January 21, 2009 - April 01, 2009 Time: Every Wednesday at 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Location: Metalwerx
Florentine engraving serves as the basis for the extravagance in most goldsmith work from the Renaissance to the present day. Using down to basic techniques made famous by such Italian masters as Mario Buccellati and Benvenuto Cellini, we will explore the beginning skills of the classically trained engraver.
Learn how to use the basic engraver, which serves as the essential tool in this specialized art form, as well as the milligrane tool and other decorative patterns. Students will work to gain the essential first steps in using these tools to create a few of their own pieces with endless possibilities in richness and depth. Helpful but not required are basic knowledge of such skills as soldering/torch use and basic jewelry making skills
