Hinged Clasps
Instructor: Ms. Joy Raskin
Level: Beginner to Intermediate Requirements: Basic Soldering Skills Program: Fall Status: Closed Length: 2 Days Tuition: $ 395 Materials: TBA Date: November 15, 2008 - November 16, 2008 Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location: Metalwerx
In this 2 day workshop, we will explore the fascinating world of hinged clasps. Hinged clasps are appropriate for wide chains, leather, and non-metal materials when you want a large, yet flexible clasp.
Students will start with simpler clasps using just wire and tubing to make sliding hinged clasps. Next using tubing, half-round and flat wire, wire, and sheet, students will create hinges and hinge pins that are able to slide in and out without falling out. Finally, riveting will be covered to show how to attach the clasps onto chains, leather or other materials. Basic rivets and tube rivets will also be demonstrated. Plus, learn tips to make a figure 8 safety catch so you never lose a bracelet. Students can expect to leave with 4 - 5 samples, plus a finished product.
You can see more of Joy's work and how she uses hinged clasps in her production line at www.joyraskin.com.
