Corrugation makes thin metal stronger, and offers endless options for creativity through texturing and forming. When fold forming techniques are combined with corrugated metal, the metal is "microfolded".

At each class, one or more of the techniques and textural possibilities will be demonstrated. Corrugated metal can be manipulated with pliers, fingers, rolling mills, and hammers. Participants will have the opportunity to practice and experiment in copper, and then design and create finished jewelry and objects in Argentium Sterling Silver.

This class is appropriate for all levels, from advanced beginner to professional. Participants need to have had at least one prior metals course, and know how to use basic jewelry tools.

This class is 8 sessions long. Each session is 3 hours. There will be no class on November 11 (Veteran's Day) and November 25 (Thanksgiving Week). If a make-up class is necessary, it will be held on December 16, 2008.

Materials & Tools

The $50 materials fee (payable when signing up for the class) will cover copper for experimenting, as well as Argentium Sterling Silver for making finished pieces.

Students should bring:

  • Paper, pencil, fine point permanent marker, ruler
  • Pliers—including flat nose and round nose
  • Hand shears, such as Joyce Chen (available through Allcraft---say that you are a student of Cynthia Eid’s, and get the student discount.) Alternatively, ordinary scissors can also be used for the thin metals used for microfolding.
