Level: All Skill Levels Requirements: Jewelry I or Equivalent Program: Summer Status: Open Length: 3 Days Tuition: $ 450 Only $ 427.5 for registration before 01 July 2008 Materials: $ 45 Date: August 01, 2008 - August 03, 2008 Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Location: Metalwerx
Back by popular demand! Explore enameling, the art of fusing glass to metal, with no kiln required. We will instead practice using a torch to adhere glass to copper, creating colorful works of art. In this fast paced workshop we will recap techniques such as preparation of base metal, sifting, layering, scraffito, stencils, and wet packing.
New techniques introduced will include further use of enamel embellishments (decals and foils), enameling on 3-dimensional forms, painting and drawing, and cloisonné. Students can expect to make numerous sample tiles or a more complex enamel piece that could be incorporated into one’s own jewelry at a later date. Prior metals experience helpful, but no enameling experience is necessary.
