Jewelry II
Instructor: Mrs. Leslie Hartwell
Level: Intermediate Requirements: Jewelry I or Equivalent Program: Fall Status: Open Length: 10 Sessions Tuition: $ 450 Materials: $ 75 Date: September 21, 2010 - November 30, 2010 Time: Every Tuesday at 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM Location: Metalwerx
In this class we will expand and fine tune the skills learned in Jewelry I, and explore a wider range of processes, time-saving tools and resources. This is an opportunity to put fundamental hand skills to work on projects of the student's own design while learning new skills within the guidelines from the instructor.
The first five weeks, students will be introduced to new tools and techniques, participate in design exercises, discussions, and idea development and create sketches, models and samples as necessary. The final project made during the last four weeks will involve the design and creation of a one-of-a kind pendant, chain, and complementary set of earrings. Techniques incorporated into these projects may include mixing of metals, use of the hydraulic press and rolling mill, tube setting of small cabochons and/or small faceted stones, and patinas.
Instruction on pick, stick, and sweat soldering will also be integrated into the projects to build confidence and knowledge on how to handle a variety of soldering situations. Successful completion of this course will qualify students to use the open studio hours available at Metalwerx as an independent and responsible craftsperson.
This class is 10 sessions long. Each session is 3 hours. There will be no class on November 23, 2010. If a make-up class is necessary, it will be held on December 7, 2010
