What is the Cloud Dome?
Cloud Dome is a light diffusing device in the shape of a dome that works with any camera. The dome is made of lightweight, high impact, non-yellowing, crack-resistant Plexiglas. The Cloud Dome eliminates reflection, hot-spots and glare.
Lighting has always been the concern of photographers. Good studio photographers invest their money in bulbs, umbrellas, tripods, electrical wiring, backdrops, and countless other pieces of equipment. Cloud Dome has solved a large part of the photography puzzle with a dome that evenly diffuses lighting. It also stabilizes the camera, which means you do not need a tripod.
In this workshop, you will learn how to work your digital camera to take professional photographs, how to control lighting for macro photography, and how to process your photographs in Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Our goal is to help you develop your own formula for taking good pictures.

Syllabus Topics include:
Your digital studio: an explanation of digital cameras (the features, advantages/disadvantages by brand/style/type, etc.), minimum computer requirements for your needs, and available peripherals.
Hands on digital camera review: white balance, macro mode, timer mode, f-stops, shutter speed, and contrast.
Controlling lighting: how different lighting conditions affect the way colors appear, how you can use ambient lighting and extra lighting to control the way your object looks, how to use the Cloud Dome and accessories to take high quality macro photographs.
Processing photos in Photoshop: how to resize your image for different uses, work with various selection tools, get a transparent background, add a gradient background, adjust light levels, adjust color, and much more.

Materials & Tools
Students should Bring:
Please bring your digital camera, Cloud Dome, and lots of stuff to photograph! You may also want to bring extra batteries or a cord for your camera, and/or the USB cable. If you own a laptop computer with a version of Photoshop installed, you can also bring it along so that you can work with your images on your machine.
Note: If you do not have a digital camera, Cloud Dome, or a laptop computer, do not worry. We have extra digital cameras, Cloud Domes, props, lights and other items for you to use to take fantastic photos for print, slides or the web. Bringing a laptop computer is optional. We work interactively with all of the images taken in class on the projector screen. Lunch will be provided.
