Private lessons: Private lessons in metalsmithing and jewelry making are available at the rate of $50/hour, by appointment.
Safety:
Your safety is important to us. The studio is a potentially dangerous
environment, and appropriate precautions must be taken by everyone Safety glasses or dust masks must be worn where appropriate. Each student
should have his/her own pair of safety glasses. It is a good idea to have a
respirator on hand when using patinas, etching solutions, and other
chemicals. Ear protection is also recommended.
Appropriate clothing must be worn in the studio. Open toe shoes, shorts, and
loose clothing are discouraged. Long hair should be tied back and jewelry
should be removed. Please do not bring coats or large bags into the studio.
Students must be instructed by a Metalwerx staff member on the safety and
operation of all equipment in the studio. If you have not been instructed in
the use of a tool or a specific piece of equipment, do not use it on your
own. We will be happy to instruct you. If you do not feel confident using a
tool, please ask for assistance. If something about a tool just "doesn't
seem right", please stop and ask. If you think something may be broken or
damaged, please tell us. Asking us questions helps us to keep the studio
safe for everyone, and we appreciate your help.
Students are responsible for helping to maintain the cleanliness and safety
of the studio. Please report any problems with machinery or tools to the
staff immediately.
Thank you for your help in keeping our studio safe for everyone.
